Sue Marriott

Sue has been practising meditation since completing the ‘Mindfulness Based Life Enhancement’ Programme run by John Darwin at Sheffield Hallam University in 2011, and is an active member of the Mindfulness Special Interest Group at Sheffield Business School (SBS). She is interested in embedding the concepts and practice of mindfulness within organisations (all sectors, all sizes!), particularly how more compassionate approaches to leadership might improve resilience for those organisations and the individuals who work within them. Her most recent reading has been in the area of mindfulness and the ageing process – how coach/mentors might support individuals in making career transitions in the years leading up to ‘retirement’, and in challenging stereotypical attitudes to more mature employees within organisations.

Sue is a qualified coach/mentor, has co-facilitated a number of Mindfulness-Based Life Enhancement courses and taster sessions, and also teaches on a variety of undergraduate, post-graduate and corporate courses at SBS, primarily related to enterprise, change, creativity and strategic management. Her teaching has included workshops on various applications of mindfulness in organisational settings, including the contribution it might make to enterprise and innovation, creativity and more responsible approaches to management.

She has a first degree in Social Administration, an MBA, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, and a post-graduate certificate in Coaching and Mentoring. She is currently studying towards the MSc in Mindfulness Studies through the University of Aberdeen. Formerly Deputy Head of the Department of Management at SBS, she has worked at a senior level in a variety of public and private sector organisations, mainly involving the design and delivery of management training and business development programmes. She has also been involved in numerous government policy initiatives in the enterprise field.
